First Birthday Cake Smash

My niece's first birthday is this month so I knew we had to document it in a special way! As soon as I saw her try food for the first time I knew she was the perfect candidate for a cake smash. She LOVES food and her enthusiasm for it is so endearing. She doesn't shy away at all from getting messy so I knew she'd love this activity!

Before the cake smash session I went in search of the perfect outfit for Miss Riri to wear. I loved this outfit so much and I knew she would look adorable in it. It's a Sofia Romper from Petite Poupee's Boutique. You should check them out! I love everything this boutique has to offer. This romper is now available in my studio for future clients to use along with this cake smash setup.

Messy activities are so fun to document and my studio is the perfect place to do it. I don't mind the mess at all!

This was the first time I made a naked cake and I was very happy with the results. If you want to know how I did it, click here to follow the tutorial of this awesome lady! I used a 9.5 inch pan instead of her recommendation of 8" only because the city seemed to be out of 8" pans when I went searching for them. This was way bigger than required but it's what I had here at the time and it still gave me the result I was going for. There was so much cake left over I was able to send half of it home!

I'd love to know if you're a fan of cake smashes or if you have a different, creative way of celebrating first birthdays?
